Mogadishu (bulacle.com) - The President and Prime Minister of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Hamse Abdi, have firmly turned down Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe's request to pause electoral proceedings in the Somali parliament.
This development follows Madobe's promise to delay Jubaland
elections and engage in dialogue with the federal government, a proposition he
presented during a recent meeting with a Kenyan delegation led by intelligence
chief Nouradin.
The talks, held last night in Mogadishu, were aimed at easing the escalating tensions between Jubaland and the Somali federal government, largely fueled by the upcoming Jubaland elections.
The Kenyan officials had previously met with President
Madobe to discuss crisis resolution.
In a bid for compromise,
Madobe urged the Kenyan delegation to advocate for a halt to all electoral
activities until a viable solution is reached, a condition he claimed was
accepted by the delegation. However, the federal leaders emphasized their
commitment to proceed with the elections, rejecting any notion of postponement
while asserting that the electoral process will continue as planned.
As the situation unfolds, the Kenyan delegation is striving to mediate between the conflicting sides in hopes of restoring stability in Jubaland and the broader Somali political landscape.
